OTAGO FRAMERS

About

I’ve always been drawn to the way colour, texture and pattern can change how something looks and feels. It can be very intuitive, personal and meaningful. This creative approach and thinking informs my framing.

My background is in fine art, and I graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a first-class degree in Painting and Drawing. That experience continues to inform the way I work today.

I have recently relocated the business to the village of Gartmore in Stirlingshire, 45 minutes north of Glasgow and would be delighted to meet you to discuss your framing requirements. Please get in touch to make an appointment.

Framing

Shirly and Lucy working

Consultation

My approach to framing is intuitive, creative and collaborative. I take time to understand each piece and what it means to the person bringing it to me. Whether it’s a valuable painting or much-loved family photograph, I will create a frame that feels considered, personal, and at home with your artwork.

Materials

A hand painted frame is quite different from a factory-made object. Each one is crafted by hand, with its own character, becoming an integral part of the artwork. In my own painting, I have enjoyed exploring abstract surfaces with colour and mark making. I bring this skill to my hand-finishes using artist quality acrylics, earth pigment paints and a range of Farrow & Ball paints. I also specialise in gilding and traditional gesso work.

I use only conservation mount boards and both soft and hardwood mouldings for framing which are FSC approved. I offer standard, acrylic and conservation glazing options. All backing boards are acid-free and/or conservation grade to ensure the protection of your artwork.

“Otago Framers consistently deliver top-quality work. They did an exceptional job restoring over 100 historic portraits after our 2018 Killermont Clubhouse fire. I am very happy to recommend them for their highly professional and user-friendly approach.”
